Hammarskjold School PTA Home Page
Welcome to the HUES PTA!
The PTA is a national organization comprised of parents, teachers, and staff whose main goal is child advocacy. It is the largest and oldest child advocacy group in the country since its inception in 1897. You may see PTA members throughout your schools selling spirit wear, organizing class parties and fundraisers, but this is only a sliver of what the PTA is responsible for. Countless hours are spent behind the scenes often unnoticed. If you are grateful for universal kindergarten, that was due to the advocacy of the national PTA. If you’re grateful for child labor laws, national school lunch program, juvenile justice system, school safety, and arts in education, those were all PTA initiatives. We conduct Annual Public Policy agendas which outline policy priorities and recommendations for Congress and have helped institute countless changes. We promote open communication and understanding between parents and local schools, and all efforts serve to enhance and maximize the education of every child. PTAs also sponsor assistance to teachers in classroom settings, and those fundraisers you see are for supplemental experiences. Our intent is to always support family and school social interaction and provide a non-biased forum for sharing info on issues that impact our children.
Whether you attend a meeting, volunteer at an event, or support a fundraiser, we look forward to hearing from you.
